Vintage Wines
July 23rd 2011 Saturday Wine Tasting 1 - 7 p.m.
Serve summer or winter, it has the same effect, get something good to drink and stay in the climate control.
Messias, 2010 Vinho Verde-ish, $9.99
Because of where it's from this is not a true Vinho Verde, but Portuguese none the less. It's fizzy, just a hint fruity, crisp, clean, citrus, with good lime and some lemon - buy two this goes fast!
Lovisolo, 2010 Gavi, $14.99 / Intro price $11.99
White wine from Gavi, Italy is always 100% Cortese, these are smooth, creamy, and most of all it shows quite a bit of pear, how often do pear flavors emerge in wine…
Forefront, By Pine Ridge, 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, $14.99
This mouthwatering wine balances bright acidity with a creamy mouth-feel, produced by its time on the lees, for an intense, yet refreshing profile. Juicy and expansive, notes of ruby grapefruit, guava and pomelo flavors explode over the palate, expressing hints of richer honeysuckle and pineapple throughout a finish that just doesn’t stop.
Cline Cellars, Cold Climate, Pinot Noir, $19.99
One of the most kicking Pinot Noirs I've tried in a while, this is full bodied, more French in style, yet with more fruit being from California. Heavy on the black cherries, raspberries, some strawberries, and quite a bit of spice on the finish with some oak.
Cuco, 2009 Red Blend, Jumilla, $11.99
This is just too tasty, great with anything off the grill, and priced just right. It's a blend of Syrah, Monastrell, and Tempranillo, deep, dark, and superlatively stewed, it's a monster at this price.
Forefront, By Pine Ridge, 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, $29.99
I've long been a fan of Pine Ridge as they have offered wines from Howell Mountain, and Stags Leap districts at competitive prices. Now, they are getting real competitive… the Forefront label is the secondary label for Pine Ridge. So we're talking about the grapes that were almost good enough to go into $70 - $120 bottles of wine. These are the same wine makers, the barrels, the same techniques that are being used in those more expensive bottles, but here in a more affordable, yet still premium price range, and style. I think this wine though not inexpensive is a supreme value for those seeking a top-notch Cabernet. The winery had this to say, " Aromas of blackberry, red cherry and raspberry leap from the glass, enlivened by intriguing notes of spice, cedar and toffee. The palate echoes the nose with a juicy swirl of dark and red berries and plum, supported by solid yet smooth tannins that prolong the delicious finish."
We'll have three new beers from Austria, some of the best beer we've had in years!
As always thank you for your patronage,
Bruce G. Davis
