SURPRISE TASTING! Why you ask, why not I say.
Lovi, 2009 Orvieto Classico, Abboccato, $11.99
Blended of several regional grapes, this wine is fresh, lightly thick with tropical and citrus fruit, and shows a light, but quick almond quality on the finish. The real hook to this wine is the texture as it moves from light to heavy across the entire palate - a great summer sipper or with pear and pecan vinaigrette salad, or crawfish!
Sacchetto, Prosecco, Extra Dry, $13.99
It's not summer without some Prosecco! It's fresh and crisp while being smooth and a bit creamy with just a bit of sweetness upfront but quickly disappearing in a clean finish, try it and you'll want more - a lot more.
Hercules, 2008 Agiorgitiko, $9.99
We haven't tasted this wine out in a few years, and in the last four years this wine just gets better and better. Rich in red berry fruit, with just a bit of pepper and blueberry to finish it out. Priced right and goes with anything for summer. And, is a distant cousin to the next wine, Pinot Noir.
Pellegrini, Olivet Lane, Russian River Valley, 2009 Pinot Noir, $21.00
It's quite the beast to be a Pinot. This brutally fantastic wine has all the flavors of Bourgogne, France, with the big ripe California flair for fruit and plenty of oak to add a nice spicy kick to the concentrated red and black cherries, raspberries, and toasted strawberry notes; rounding out with a hint of olive, spice, and earth.
Russian River Valley ROCKS!
Domaine de Gournier, 2010 Grenache Noir, Costieres de Nimes, Cevennes, $11.99
It's a real monster, reduced mixed cherries and spice prevail throughout, light tones of herbs, meaty rustic textures, and a delight with anything off the grill, you just have to try this one for the money!
La Sera, Red Ambrosia, $12.99
It's sweet, it's fizzy, it's red, and it's finally back!!!
As always thank you for your patronage,
Bruce G. Davis
